Spirit Airlines (NK) claims cheap flights but adds $48 for a carry-on on JFK-LAS, making their $119 fare actually $167 total when packing essentials.
Compare this to Lufthansa (LH) for Frankfurt: $412 roundtrip from LHR to FRA with a hotel near Hauptbahnhof. I paid €159 for the flight alone in May 2023, then found a hotel for €99/night—total €258, over $280 USD. Spirit’s hidden fees make their "cheap" claim misleading for travelers with luggage.

Book Paris trips 60 days out: I secured AF’s $387 fare on March 15 for a April 25 departure. Booking 30 days out would’ve cost $462. For Las Vegas, Spirit’s $119 JFK-LAS fare is only cheap in April ($48 fee) but jumps to $210 in August ($162 fee) — a $162 difference.
Paris hotels hit peak rates in July (avg. $185/night) and drop to $120 in November. Avoid booking November 1–15: I missed a $99 hotel deal because the site froze during a Black Friday sale, forcing me to pay $142.
