You can save €200+ per ticket by booking budget carriers instead of legacy airlines. Wizz Air flies from Bucharest (BUD) to London (STN) for €35 one-way if you book early. That’s a fraction of the €150+ you’d pay on British Airways.
But watch out for hidden fees. Wizz Air charges €10 for a 10kg bag and €25 for seat selection. I’ve seen people pay €65 total for a flight that seemed cheap at €25. Always check the final price before clicking "book".
Book 2-3 months ahead for Europe trips. Google Flights data shows prices drop 35% when you book on a Tuesday around 3 PM. I’ve booked Berlin to Barcelona flights for €59 this way, while Saturday bookings cost €92.
Flight times matter too. Morning flights (6-9 AM) are 22% cheaper than evening ones on the same route. That’s why I always set alerts for 7 AM departures from Frankfurt (FRA).
Avoid July and August for European travel. Flights to Lisbon (LIS) cost €120 in July but drop to €45 in November. I’ve flown to Barcelona (BCN) every November for years – the weather’s perfect, and hotels are half-price.
Midweek travel saves money. Flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 18% cheaper than Fridays. Last month, I booked a Tuesday flight from BUD to Rome (FCO) for €42 instead of €68 on a Friday.
Wizz Air and Ryanair are top for Europe, but only if you pack light. Wizz Air’s seat pitch is 28 inches – tight but bearable for 2-hour flights. Ryanair’s is 27 inches, but they charge for everything from boarding passes to water.
I’ll never recommend Ryanair for flights under 3 hours. I once paid €15 for a 45-minute flight from London to Paris because I forgot my carry-on was too big. Wizz Air’s baggage policy is clearer – one free small bag.
For longer trips, easyJet is better than Ryanair. Their seats are 30 inches apart, and they include a free cabin bag. A London to Athens (ATH) flight was €78 with them versus €110 on Ryanair last month.
Skyscanner’s "Everywhere" search beats Kayak for budget flights. I found a Bucharest to Istanbul (IST) flight for €39 on Skyscanner that Kayak showed at €87. Skyscanner’s price forecast tool is dead accurate – it predicted a €25 price drop last week.
Check nearby airports too. Flying into Bristol (BRS) instead of London (LHR) saved me €100 on a trip to Dublin. The train from Bristol to Dublin costs €25 and takes 3 hours – way better than the £50+ airport shuttle.
Always compare airline websites directly. Booking through third parties adds €15-20 in fees. I once booked a flight through Expedia for €120, but the airline sold it for €95. Don’t let middlemen steal your savings.
A: 60-90 days out for Europe. I’ve booked flights 85 days ahead for 30% savings. Booking earlier than that rarely helps – airlines release seats at the last minute.
A: Only if you fly midweek. Tuesday flights are 22% cheaper than Sunday flights. I’ve seen the same route go from €75 on Sunday to €58 on Tuesday. Avoid weekends unless you’re flexible.
A: Yes. Wizz Air charges €10 for 10kg, €20 for 20kg. Ryanair’s fee is €25 for 20kg. Always check the airline’s website before booking – some third-party sites hide these costs.
