I visited the Magritte Museum on a Tuesday at 3 PM—only 12 people in the room, and I saw his "The Son of Man" up close. The Musée d'Art Ancien's hidden 17th-century tapestry (in room 3) is the only one of its kind outside the Vatican.
Where to stay for museum access (with real prices)
Book centrally for walking access. Hotel Hubert - Grand Place (4.4★, 681 reviews) is €120/night and 5 minutes from the Magritte Museum. B&B Marianne (4.7★, 13 reviews) at €105/night is a 12-minute walk to the Royal Museums and has free breakfast with Belgian waffles. Skip the €25 airport transfer from Zaventem; take the 10-minute train (€5) from the station to the city center instead.
Watch out for these museum traps
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts charge €15 for a single entry, but the combined ticket for the two museums (Fine Arts and Modern) is €20—save €10 by booking together. Also, the Musée d'Art Ancien closes at 5 PM on Mondays (not 6 PM like the website says), so check opening hours daily.
