My take: I've tracked weather and crowd data for Dusseldorf across every month since 2020. The numbers below come from Open-Meteo historical averages (1990-2024), flight-price trackers from Aviasales, and my own trip notes. If a month looks "good" on paper but I'd personally skip it, I say so.

Best months: August, July, May — comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, good value.
I went to Düsseldorf in May 2023 and was surprised by how many locals were already using the riverbanks for picnics despite the cool mornings. August averages 22°C, sees 75mm rainfall, and offers 65% sunny days, making it ideal for exploring the Rhine. My honest warning: avoid February/March if you're not attending Karneval, as hotel prices triple and public transport becomes gridlocked for weeks.
