My take: I've tracked weather and crowd data for Edinburgh across every month since 2020. The numbers below come from Open-Meteo historical averages (1990-2024), flight-price trackers from Aviasales, and my own trip notes. If a month looks "good" on paper but I'd personally skip it, I say so.
UK · Real weather data · Updated April 2026
Best months: July, September, August — comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, good value.
I went to Edinburgh in June 2023 and was surprised by how early the Fringe atmosphere began, with street performers already filling the Royal Mile by mid-month. Best months: July (avg 18°C, 65mm rain, 45% sunny days, £120-150/night), August (avg 19°C, 70mm rain, 42% sunny days, £140-180/night), September (avg 15°C, 75mm rain, 40% sunny days, £110-140/night). Avoid booking accommodation the week before major festivals as prices spike sharply and deals vanish weeks earlier.
